KOMPAS.com - Setelah gagal peluncuran pertama dua astronot ke luar angkasa pada Rabu lalu, NASA dan SpaceX pekan ini siapkan upaya kedua.

Kedua astronot NASA, Doug Hurley dan Bob Behnken pekan lalu dijadwalkan meluncur ke Stasiun Ruang Angkasa Internasional (ISS).

Namun misi tersebut harus tertunda karena cuaca buruk di Kennedy Space Center Florida.

Ini adalah misi bersejarah, sebab untuk kali pertamanya peluncuran astronot ke ruang angkasa diprakarsai NASA dan perusahaan swasta milik Elon Musk.

Melansir BBC News, Sabtu (30/5/2020), ada fokus besar pada misi yang akan dilakukan Hurley dan Behnken.

Sebab, misi ini menandai pertama kalinya Amerika Serikat dapat meluncurkan astronotnya ke ISS sejak pesawat ulang alik NASA dipensiunkan pada tahun 2011 lalu.

"Kami akan meluncurkan saat mereka (astronot) siap," kata Administrator NASA Jim Bridenstine.

Menurut pengamatan langit di Inggris, penerbangan di hari Sabtu, kemungkinan memberi pandangan kurang baik saat kapsul diluncurkan ke luar angkasa.

Upaya peluncuran pertama dalam pekan itu terlewat 16 menit sebelum waktu peluncuran ditentukan.

Ada banyak aktivitas kelistrikan di udara sepanjang hari, dan tim pengendali menyimpulkan cuaca saat itu tidak baik untuk peluncuran.

Astronot NASA siap menuju ISS

Pada saat penundaan misi, Hurley dan Behnken sudah duduk di dalam kapsul Dragon di atas roket milik Falcon dengan bahan bakar pendorong yang siap lepas landas.
