Lagu ini diproduseri oleh sang gitaris, Jimmy Page, dirilis pada 15 Agustus 1979 melalui label Swan Song Records.

“Hot Dog” muncul sebagai trek keempat dalam album kedelapan mereka yang bertajuk In Through the Out Door. Album tersebut sukses mencapai peringkat ke-2 di Billboard 200.
