TWO WISE GOATS

One day, there were two goats lived in a small village. The village has a river with a narrow bridge over it. People used the bridge to cross over the river.

One sunny afternoon, the two goats wanted to cross from opposite directions. The goats met in the middle of the bridge. The bridge was too narrow.  There was no space for them to pass. They waited but neither of them moved away. The white goat shouted to the other, “You must go back since I am older and stronger than you”. The brown goat refused and said “I am stronger. You are old and will take a lot of time to cross the bridge”. 

Soon their argument turned into a fight. The brown goat struck the other goat with his horns. The white goat was shocked. He thought that if they continued fighting then they would fall off the bridge and drown. Suddenly the white goat shouted out “stop! if we fight we will fall into the river and drown, instead I shall lie down and you may walk over me”.

The wise white goat then laid down on the bridge and the brown goat walked carefully over him, so they finally passed each other and were on their way.

(Suatu hari, ada dua ekor kambing yang tinggal di sebuah desa kecil. Desa ini memiliki sungai dengan jembatan sempit di atasnya. Orang-orang menggunakan jembatan untuk menyeberangi sungai.

Suatu sore yang cerah, kedua kambing itu ingin menyeberang dari arah yang berlawanan. Kambing-kambing itu bertemu di tengah jembatan. Jembatan itu terlalu sempit. Tidak ada ruang bagi mereka untuk lewat. Mereka menunggu tapi tak satu pun dari mereka pindah. Kambing putih berteriak kepada yang lain, “Kamu harus kembali karena aku lebih tua dan lebih kuat darimu”. Kambing coklat menolak dan berkata, “Saya lebih kuat. Anda sudah tua dan akan membutuhkan banyak waktu untuk menyeberangi jembatan”.

Segera pertengkaran mereka berubah menjadi perkelahian. Kambing coklat memukul kambing lain dengan tanduknya. Kambing putih itu kaget. Dia berpikir bahwa jika mereka terus bertarung maka mereka akan jatuh dari jembatan dan tenggelam. Tiba-tiba kambing putih itu berteriak “berhenti! jika kita melawan kita akan jatuh ke sungai dan tenggelam, sebaliknya saya akan berbaring dan Anda mungkin berjalan di atas saya”.

Kambing putih yang bijaksana kemudian berbaring di jembatan dan kambing coklat berjalan dengan hati-hati di atasnya, sehingga mereka akhirnya berpapasan dan melanjutkan perjalanan.)

THE ANT AND THE DOVE

One day, there was an ant who lived next to the river. He walked to the riverside to drink some water. But, he fell into the water and almost died, he screamed out “help.. help me!”. At the moment, a dove saw the ant and he wanted to save him. He threw a leaf to the river to safe the ant. The ant thankful to the dove “thank you so much for saving my life”, then the dove flew away.

Unfortunately, a hunter saw the dove, and he wanted to shot him. Lucky, the ant saw the hunter, and knew that the dove was in danger. So, the ant bite the hunter’s foot to save the dove, “ouch, my foot. It’s so hurt!”. Suddenly, the hunter dropped his gun because of the pain.

The dove heard the hunter’s screamed, soon he flew away safely. He wanted to thank the ant for saving his life, “thank you, you also safe my life”. The ant and the dove smiled and thankful for each other.

(Suatu hari, ada seekor semut yang tinggal di sebelah sungai. Dia berjalan ke tepi sungai untuk minum air. Tapi, dia jatuh ke air dan hampir mati, dia berteriak "tolong..tolong aku!". Pada saat itu, seekor merpati melihat semut dan dia ingin menyelamatkannya. Dia melemparkan daun ke sungai untuk menyelamatkan semut. Semut berterima kasih kepada merpati “terima kasih banyak telah menyelamatkan hidupku”, lalu merpati itu terbang menjauh.

Sayangnya, seorang pemburu melihat merpati itu, dan dia ingin menembaknya. Beruntung, semut melihat pemburu, dan tahu bahwa merpati dalam bahaya. Jadi, semut menggigit kaki pemburu untuk menyelamatkan merpati, “Aduh, kakiku. Sakit sekali!”. Tiba-tiba, pemburu itu menjatuhkan senjatanya karena kesakitan.

Merpati mendengar teriakan pemburu, tak lama kemudian ia terbang dengan selamat. Dia ingin berterima kasih kepada semut karena telah menyelamatkan hidupnya, "terima kasih, kamu juga menyelamatkan hidupku". Semut dan merpati saling tersenyum dan berterima kasih.)
