This is the first time since 1990 that NASA has had both shuttles on the launch pad at the same time. Shuttle Atlantis is on an eleven day mission to make repairs to the Hubble Space Telescope where the STS-125 crew of seven astronauts will install two new instruments in Hubble, as well as replace the Fine Guidance Sensor. Five back to back spacewalks will be conducted during the flight. The shuttle Endeavour will be poised ready on the launch pad to pick up the crew of Atlantis in the event that there is damage to shuttle Atlantis during the mission and unable to return to earth.(GARY I ROTHSTEIN)
